leaves and petals and chains

Superb! I just received Sonja Bischur’s spring 2010 lookbook – and it’s a delight. Sonja continues her one-of-a-kind approach of jewellery design, and in addition to her very reduced and puristic, mostly black-and-white creations, there’s a special series of very colourful unique pieces, combining silk scarfs and chains. The scarfs are actually woven into the chains, and draped onto them. Wear one of these, and you’re dressed, basically. Contact through Valery Demure sales + press or via the email mentioned in her designer profile. Really, really good stuff.

Sonja Bischur’s delicate jewels
As the fashion editor of a magazine with a more avantgardistic aesthetic profile, looking for special items in the showroom of Valery Demure is never a mistake. When I did so recently, I rediscovered the ever so beautiful jewellery created by Vienna-based designer Sonja Bischur.

Sonja’s work is absolutely astounding, gorgeous the numerous layers and intricate details that characterise her creations, necklaces for the most part.

After downloading her lookbook from Valery’s homepage, I found that I absolutely had to get in touch with her – which I did, with things made easier by the fact that she is actually my neighbour and lives two houses down the street.

Sonja started out her career as a freelance designer working for music videos, theatre and film productions after complementing her university studies with a rather intensive course in the German city of Pforzheim (which has a very good reputation for training goldsmiths and watchmakers).

You can still fell, when contemplating her designs or running them through your fingers, that her work in prêt-à-porter is closely linked to a Haute Joaillerie tradition of artistic and rare gallery pieces. But by presenting her collection year after year during fashion week in Paris, Sonja has chosen the right direction for her work.
I am absolutely thrilled and very much looking forward to her collection for spring 2010. See you in Paris!
